Originally started by Scarborough HS coach John Roberts (who now is the Head Coach for St. Josephs college - fun fact), this event has outgrown the high school and is now being held at the Maine Sports Arena. It's an air conditioned facility, formerly an ice arena, with 5 courts and 2 elevated viewing areas. This is really a FUN day. A low-key atmosphere, with music playing and a good chance to just PLAY. They will have t-shirts and concessions for sale. 19 teams are confirmed, with a good possibility that 20 teams will be there.

Teams will play for 25 minutes - however many games they can get in during that time. Then there will be a 5 minute warmup period for the next match. There will be no hitting during warmups, only passing and then a joint period for serving before the game starts. Wins/losses are tracked only to shuffle the teams around for the afternoon session. This is a PLAY day, there is nothing at stake.

Teams will also have to help officiate. Don't worry if you've never done it before. Basic officiating will be for serves, net calls and foot faults. We will also need line judges, score flippers and a score keeper (basic score sheet). There will be no need for coaches to submit official lineups and there will be no libero tracking.

The games will be 21-point games, but will start at 4 and go to 25. This is typical for club/winter volleyball and keeps any end-game strategy in-tact. The shorter games also let us play more teams.

So that's about it! 5 courts, 20 teams, 4 teams per court - 2 teams playing, 1 team officiating, 1 team off. Morning "pool", lunch break, then afternoon "pool". Music, and fun!

Let me know if you have any questions!
